SPOKANE, Wash. -- The George Fox lacrosse team won by a landslide, doubling Whitworth's score in a 18-9 game.
How It Happened
The score stayed pretty even in the first quarter—a draw control was won by
Claire Abraham, and the ball was taken down the field immediately with a goal made by
Lana Davis in the first forty seconds. Whitworth attempted to draw ahead, but Fox kept the score even when
Morgan Maxfield scored a strong goal with ten minutes remaining. Although, the Bruins still had one more goal in them for the period as
Ava Bluhm caught a pass from behind the net and made a clean shot—the score was 3-2.
Each team made a lot more progress in the second quarter when
Merrick Gibson made her 22nd goal of the season within the first 30 seconds of the period. The Pirates tried to keep up, but Fox kept out-doing them as Bluhm made another solid goal from an assist from Maxfield. The Bruins were on a roll when a couple minutes later, Abraham made a goal out of a sneaky pass from
Sasha Thayer, and then less than a minute later, Davis scored once again—Fox was ahead 7-3. Some time went by as Whitworth gave their all to keep up with the Bruins, but with less than five minutes remaining, Davis scored her 20th goal of the season, bringing the score up 8-5, while
Naomi Rauch scored a goal as well at 9-5.
Fox shot ahead in goals during the third quarter as Davis scored on a free-position shot, and then later on scored another goal, advancing the score 11-7. Thirty seconds later, Abraham scored a clean goal off of an assist from Maxfield—goal number 20 of the season. Each team struggled to score for a while until Maxfield scored a goal on a free-position shot. Eventually, the quarter came to a close as Bluhm scored the final goal of the period with thirty seconds left—14-8.
The first four minutes of the final period was quiet as each team struggled to find control, but Bluhm picked up where she left off and scored a goal, and less than a minute later was a goal by Thayer—doubling the score 16-8. The end of the game drew near, but Thayer had two more goals left in her—11 goals of the season, watching the Pirates lose their steam in a 18-9 game.
