NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins softball team played against Lewis & Clark, beating them in the first game 5-2, and an even cleaner score in the second—3-0.
How It Happened -- Game One
The Pioneers got the first run in the top of the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch but Fox countered quickly;
Brooke Riggins homered to right field with two RBI to score
Makayla Noone. The senior's spark gave Fox a 2-1 lead, but the Pios tied the game, 2-2, with a home run in the next inning.
Fox didn't score in the second inning, but came back strong in third when
Nicole Campa singled to left field to score and
Sharon Tomei. A few pitches later, Campa stole second, with Riggins reaching home on an error. Thanks to the flurry of runs, the score sat at 5-2.
Jordyn Relethford and
Nicole Ledendecker closed out the game in the circle. The Bruins just allowed one baserunner in the final four innings as the game slowed to a halt. A routine groundout ended the game with a Bruin win, 5-2.
How It Happened -- Game Two
Fox scored right off the bat in the bottom of the first inning—
Kiley Harris homered to center field with scoring Riggins to start the game in the lead, 2-0. Ledendecker stepped back into the circle for the Bruins and once again remained unhittable. The Pios scattered six runs across the board, but never got more than one baserunner on.
The game remained quiet — until
Bethany Wilkes singled down the infield line and Harris scored again, setting in place the final score 3-0. A spectacular line-drive catch from Riggins was the cherry on top in the Bruin victory.
Following the game, Fox honored their seniors:

Nicole Campa,
Sharon Tomei,
Sydney Sandifer, and
Madelyn Loughary.
