NEWBERG, Ore. --The George Fox men's soccer team collected another win after a defensive battle, defeating the Corban Warriors, 1-0, thanks to a penalty kick from
Eugene Peltier.
How It Happened
The first half showcased an intense defensive battle, both teams failing to find the back of the net before halftime. The Warriors had eight shots compared to the Bruins three. The first of those Bruin shots was fired by
Luke Lidington, and was promptly followed by two attempts from
Carson Tapia.
Chase Nelson recorded three saves in the first half for the Bruins as the score was tied into the half, 0-0, despite the Warriors dominating the possession.
When the second half rolled around, it was the Bruins' turn to hold possession. And in the 53rd minute, It seemed that Fox had taken the lead when
Eugene Peltier put a ball into the top right corner of the net — but before the Bruin bench could even erupt, the goal was disallowed due to an offside call. Just three minutes later, though, Peltier had another chance.
Kaimi Victor received a through ball in the 56th minute, reaching the ball and forcing a one-on-one with the Warrior goalie. Victor raced by the Corban defender, and was taken down illegally with the open net in front of him. Penalty. Enter Peltier. The senior took full advantage of a penalty kick, blasting the ball into the lower right corner of the net, scoring the only goal of the evening on either side of the field. Stellar defense by the Bruins, including five total saves by Nelson, held Corban for the rest of the game allowing the Bruins to come out on top, 1-0.
