Tapia Second-Half Goal Bests Boxers 1-0

NEWBERG, Ore. - The George Fox Men's soccer team grabs their second straight win of the season in a gritty match with Pacific University, 1-0.

How it Happened
The 1st half started in a flurry of action between the two teams, with Bruin goalkeeper Chase Nelson saving an early shot by Pacific University's Carter Zeiset. George Fox responded quickly with Talon Wagner going one-on-one with a Pacific player who had an angle on the goal. Wagner later weaved through a throng of the Boxers' defensive players, but his shot was saved by the Pacific goalie. Intensity resumed in the 13th minute when Fox found themselves facing a corner kick from the Pacific team. A header by Boxer, Trenton Zimmerman found the net but was ruled to be offside, leaving the teams at 0-0.

Numerous shots were recorded in the first half, with neither team's defense buckling under the other's aggressive offense. Bruins Aidan Brouddus, Carson Tapia, and Alec Buongervino each had a shot on goal, while Pacific also recorded three shots on goal in the first half.

Into the second half, momentum slowed for both teams as the game centered around possession. However, both Brouddus and Wagner were able to weave through the mass of Pacific defense and get off shots. A defensive player blocked Wagner's shot, and Brouddus's was saved by Pacific University's goalkeeper, Kieran Buell. Finally, the Bruins saw a breakthrough when Carson Tapia's staple aggressiveness pressured the defense, found an opening, and shot past Beull's outstretched arms to put George Fox up 1-0 in the 66th minute.

Pacific fought tooth and nail in the last few minutes, putting constant pressure on the Bruin defense but were unable to crack the wall of Fox.

Top Performances
Tapia scored the Bruins' match-winning goal. George Fox recorded 16 shots this game, with Brouddus, Buongervino, and Tapia each shooting on goal. Nelson saved 5 shots for George Fox.

Coach's Thoughts
"We grew up a little bit more today winning the way we did," said Bruin head coach Paul Karver. "We are in the middle of a physically and cognitively exhausting stretch and the response the challenge has been fantastic. We are focused on stacking days and specific incremental growth. We are very proud of this group and now we have to prepare for the challenge of Willamette on Wednesday."

What Happens Next
The Bruins will travel to Salem, Ore. this Wednesday, October 11, to play Willamette at 5pm.
