Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The George Fox Women's soccer team led the game early, but fell to Linfield after a late-game three-goal run, 3-1.

How it Happened
The Wildcats opened the first half when they found an opening in the Fox's defense and were able to get the first shot of the game off while under pressure. The shot was an easy save for Bruin Goalkeeper Marisa Lam. It was the Bruins' turn to push the 'Cats' defense and deliver a shot of their own by Morgan Gill, who was narrowly blocked.

What came next was an intense back-and-forth battle for possession of the ball. The Wildcats moved steadily down the field and took four shots in nearly 10 minutes. Lam saved two shots, one being a bullet from distance, which she was able to reach and poke in the knick of time.

The Bruin women answered the Wildcats by fighting their way down the field and racking up four shots of their own. Bruin Grace Bittner took possession of the ball and sent a pass up the field to midfielder Gill, who took a sliding shot on goal. The shot was saved by the 'Cats goalie, Tati Zahajko, who would have to save another Bruin shot made by Mia Kalina from a free kick at distance. Maddie Twichell recorded two shots late in the second half, one going high right and one nearly hitting the net before Zahajko made the save.

The tide turned when Kalina made a corner kick that rolled in front of the goal, and Gill made a shot off the foot that found the net, scoring the first goal of the game and her first of the year in the 36th minute.

Wildcat offense came into the second half determined to score on the Bruins, shooting four times in 16 minutes, but George Fox defenders were able to put their bodies on the line and block all of them.

It was in the 68th minute that Linfield found their opening, and Wildcat Julia Alvarez placed a tactical shot on goal that snuck past and found the net, tying the game 1-1. After this, the game became a desperate one for possession between the teams, but Fox was still able to push the ball into the Linfield defense. Gill found herself with another opportunity on goal, but her high, center shot was once again saved by Zahajko.

Again, Linfield pushed through the Bruin defense, where a cross gave Wildcat McKenzie Heckman an open goal, followed by a missed shot, and finally a rebound that safely made their second goal of the game in the 78th minute. Just a minute later, Heckman found another opening from distance where she planted a shot in the top left of the goal that just missed the gloves of Lam, putting Linfield up 3-1.

Before the game was over, Linfield attempted two more goals, but Lam demonstrated quick reflexes and saved both to keep the Bruins in the fight.

Marisa Lam played the full 90 minutes and recorded 6 saves in the game as the Bruins' goalkeeper. Morgan Gill scored Fox's goal in the first half and also recorded 3 shots on goal. Bruins Grace Bittner and Maddie Twichell each made a shot on goal as well.
