HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Northwest Conference office announced its Student-Athletes of the Week for April 6–April 13, with
Carson Tapia and
Zach Moore earning weekly honors.
Carson Tapia was the highest-finishing Division III athlete in every event he competed in at the John Knight Twilight. The freshman won the 200m with a time of 21.66 before finishing third in the 100m with a mark of 10.77. Tapia rounded out his day by helping his relay team place second in the 4x100m, trailing only Western Oregon with a time of 42.11, the second-fastest time in the conference this season. Tapia currently sits as the conference leader in both the 100m and 200m.
The Bruins men's tennis team had their hopes for postseason play dependent on their performance in their final two matches of the weekend. Fox secured a close 4–3 victory, thanks in part to Moore's performance on Court No. 1 in both doubles and singles. The junior teamed up with freshman
Aiden Cruz to take down the No. 8 doubles team in the ITA Division III West Region 7–6 (7–6), before defeating the Wildcats' No. 1 singles competitor 6–3, 6–2.
In the Bruins' second 4–3 victory over the Boxers, who were also competing for postseason play, Moore narrowly lost his doubles match 6–4 but delivered a dominant singles performance, defeating the No. 1 singles competitor 6–0 in the first set before winning the second set 6–3.
Tapia and the track team will stay home the next two days as the Bruins host the NWC Multis at Stoffer Family Stadium. Moore and the men's tennis team will head to Walla Walla, Wash., to compete in the NWC men's tennis tournament hosted by Whitman from April 18–19, with further information to be announced soon.
