NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- After a full day of competition, the George Fox women's golf team concluded the first day of the Northwest Conference Championship in second place, one spot behind Whitworth with a 318 (+34),.
Top Performances
Paving the way for Fox was
Samara D'Silva and after a solid first day on the course, she finished in a four-way tie for first with a 76 (+5). D'Silva started off the day well with one birdie on hole four, but she found the most success on the back nine where she recorded two more birdies. Following not far behind was
Abby Matelski with a score of 79 (+8). After recording two birdies over the course of the day — one on the front nine, the other on the back nine — she ended the first round in a tie for seventh.
Reyna Naranjo came next for the Lady Bruins and ended with an 81 (+10); Naranjo had an overall consistent day on the green which helped her secure a 12th place finish. Following closely behind was
Ashlyn Johnson; after recording a birdie on hole eight, Johnson ended the first round in 15th with a total of 82 (+11). Rounding off GFU's score was
Katelyn Lam in 16th overall after shooting an 83 (+12). Lam also found the most success on the front nine (Lam started on hole 10) where she had a birdie on hole seven.
After the first day of competition, No. 43 Whitworth took first place after recording a score of 313 (+29); however, George Fox is right on the heels of Pirates. For individual play, GFU's own
Samara D'Silva is in a four-way tie alongside Pacific Lutheran's Jayda Thomas, Whitworth's Erin Pierce, and Whitman's Camila Yoo; each player shot a 76 (+5) over the course of the first day.
What Happens Next
The Lady Bruins look to continue their success on the green for their second day of the Northwest Conference Championship on Monday, April 20. The competition will continue to be held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, Ore.
