Bruins Score Back-to-Back 20-Goal Wins, Downing Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. -- The George Fox women's lacrosse team defeated the Puget Sound Loggers this weekend, claiming another win at 25-4 — tying the program record for goals in a game.

How It Happened
The first quarter was electric for Fox as they started out with a huge seven-goal lead in the first seven minutes. The opening draw control was won over by Lana Davis, with Sasha Thayer locked in the first goal. Two minutes later, the Bruins went on a three-goal run with Ava Bluhm, Naomi Rauch, and Thayer again with strong finishes.

Puget Sound attempted a shot, but Fox regained control as Bluhm made another clear shot, making the fifth goal of the period. The Loggers won draw control after that, and attempted a free-position shot, but Fox blocked the ball.

Davis made a ground-ball pickup, and then made a swift goal just behind the goalie. A minute later, Merrick Gibson passed the ball to Claire Abraham, who launched it past the defense, scoring Fox's seventh goal for the day—7-1. Eventually, Puget Sound notched a few goals, but with three and a half minutes remaining, Davis scored the next goal for Fox, keeping a steady lead at 8-2. Then, Callie Olson was in line-up for a free-position shot, scoring right at bulls-eye.

In the final two minutes, the Loggers made their third point, but the Bruins ended it with another goal by Davis, closing out the first quarter successfully with a score of 10-3 — the most goals in a quarter by the Bruins on the season.

Davis won draw control immediately into the second period, but there was some back-and-forth action between the teams, as Abraham's shot was blocked. Eventually, Gibson got around the thick defense and scored a goal. Scoring was more sparse as the teams were losing steam, but Bluhm fired a shot with still ten minutes left. The next goals were made in the final five minutes, as Jasmine Uresti, Davis, and Abraham all scored a goal, racking up a score of 15-3 as the game quickly transitioned to running clock.

At the start of the third quarter, Abraham and Davis scored goals back-to-back at the twelve minute mark—Abraham scoring again a couple minutes later. The team was ahead 18-3, as Audrey White won the next draw control, and the Bruins attacked the goalie with multiple swings.

Eventually, Abraham made yet another goal, the assist from White. Nearing the end of the period, Puget Sound made a fourth goal, winning the following draw control, but Fox didn't let that get to them as Thayer passed the ball to Lily Glos, who scored a strong goal with thirty seconds on the clock, and marking the score 20-4.

The Loggers won the first draw control of the final quarter, and attacked Fox with an attempted shot, but Fox was quick at their feet, blocking the ball and Rauch scoring instead another point for the Bruins.

The Lady Bruins had a three-point run—Rauch scoring again, while Thayer and Olson followed behind, bumping their tremendous score to 24-4. Finally, with three minutes left of the game, Glos picked up the ground-ball, passing it to White who shot and was blocked. But White got the ball to Alli Stilp, who scored the final goal—Fox claiming the victory at 25-4.
