Fox Puts Four in Top Five, Win Ninth Straight Spring Classic

4/5/2026 9:08:00 PM

TACOMA, Wash. — For the ninth consecutive season, the George Fox women's golf team captured the Northwest Conference Spring Classic crown, breezing past the competition with a 610 (+34).

Top Performances
As opposed to the first round, where the Bruins had staggered tee times, their Easter Sunday began with an 8:00 AM shotgun start. Samara D'Silva started on hole 17, and quickly moved up the leaderboards with her excellent play. The sophomore had four birdies, and had a nine-hole stretch where she shot two-under. When all was said and done, D'Silva shot five spots up the rankings to finish in second place with a day two 74 (+2) and an overall score of 151 (+7).

Three Bruins followed D'Silva in a tie for fourth place with a 152 (+9): Katelyn Lam, Reyna Naranjo, and Abby Matelski. Lam entered the day as the top Bruin in a tie for first, and though she slipped to fourth overall, she kept her solid top-five spot with a birdie on 15 and a 79 (+7) overall.

Naranjo, meanwhile, kept up her strong play from the week prior, shooting a 74 (+2) on day two. The junior finished impressively, recording three birdies in her final four holes to end on a high note. Matelski, meanwhile, had two birdies in a second-round 76 (+4). Ashlyn Johnson rounded out the Bruins with a 22nd-place finish and an overall score of 167 (+23); the freshman shot a 86 (+14) on day two.

As a team, the Bruins captured their ninth straight NWC Spring Classic title. The Bruins finished 11 strokes better than Whitworth. With a solid finish at the NWC Championship, they will also capture yet-another Northwest Conference title. Ahika Jani of Lewis & Clark was the medalist, ending her two-day tournament with a 147 (+3).

Coach's Thoughts
"We're so excited to come away with a Spring Classic victory—these Northwest Conference events are never easy to win," Bruin head coach MaryJo McCloskey said, "To have four players finish in the top 5 says everything about who we are becoming. This was a true team win, built on belief, preparation, and playing for something bigger than ourselves. We're proud of this moment and excited to keep building as we head into the NWC Championship in two weeks."

What Happens Next
The Bruins will have one off week before returning to Northwest Conference play on Sunday, April 19 to play in the NWC Championship. The tournament, hosted by Pacific, will take place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
