The Wheeler and Duke weight rooms are designed and reserved for George Fox student-athletes. It is a privilege to use these weight rooms; treat them as such. In order for a student-athlete to use Wheeler and Duke weight room facilities, all of the following requirements must be met:

The student-athlete must be enrolled at George Fox University and on a current team roster;

The student-athlete must be medically cleared by the athletic training staff, including all paperwork and insurance verification completed prior to being allowed to use the facility;

A student-athlete’s privilege to use the facility may be revoked by the Athletic Director or Associate Director of Athletics at any time.Â

No graduated student-athletes or student-athletes who have exhausted their sport eligibility are allowed to use the facility at any time.Â

No food or drink allowed in the weight room (a non-glass water bottle with a lid is acceptable).Â

Do not prop open the doors to the weight rooms.Â

Student Athletes are only allowed to enter the weight room from the main entrance. In Duke, entering the weight room from the upstairs coaches office is strictly prohibited.Â

Do not let non-GFU student-athletes into the weight rooms.

No music is permitted over speakers between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday in Duke weight room and 8:00am to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday in Wheeler weight room. All other times, please be considerate of the volume level.Â

Do not throw any objects (e.g. medicine ball) against the walls or up on the beams (e.g. water bottles).

The whiteboards and bulletin boards can only be used to post workouts.

Student-athletes are not to bring in any outside equipment. If you feel that additional equipment is needed for this space, please notify your coach (coaches will notify the head strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department).

Please do not take equipment out of these spaces. If you or your team plan to do a workout outdoors, all equipment must be cleaned and returned to its proper location.

No foul/abusive language or obscene gestures.

No Fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures.

Be respectful of the facilities and keep them clean.

All bars must be stripped immediately after use and the weights returned to the racks, replaced in their proper sequence.Â

All dumbbells must be replaced in order on the rack after each use.Â
-
Student-athletes are responsible for replacing all blocks, mats, straps, bands, step-up boxes, foam rollers, etc. that are used during workouts.Â
In an effort to promote safety, healthy body image, reduce the spread of communicable diseases, and to prevent additional wear and tear on the facilities/equipment, all users of the weight rooms must adhere to the following clothing standards:

LOWER BODY WEAR: Student-athletes are required to wear shorts, sweatpants or warm-up pants. Shorts must be long enough to cover the buttocks and groin while exercising or moving. Pants and shorts must be free of rivets, zippers or buttons.Â

UPPER BODY WEAR: T-shirts, sweatshirts and loose fitting tank tops permitted. A sports bra does not count as a shirt. Shirts must be worn over sports bras while working out in the weight rooms. Attire must cover the chest, abdomen, back and side areas from hip to armpits.

FOOTWEAR: Athletic shoes must be worn at all times. No bare feet or socks (without shoes) are allowed.Â
The music played in our athletic facilities is expected to reflect the mission and values of George Fox University and Bruin Athletics. This includes being true to our mission statement tenet of Christ-like character and our core value of integrity. Any music that plays over speakers must adhere to the following criteria:

No swear words;

No racial slurs or derogatory comments related to race, sexual orientation, or gender;

Music will not allude to anything sexual;
-
Music will not allude to anything related to drugs or alcohol.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW ANY OF THESE RULES AND POLICIES COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF ATHLETIC FACILITYÂ PRIVILEGES.

Student-athletes are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and reasonable manner and show special courtesy to other teams in all practice areas.

All students are expected to assist in helping to keep locker rooms, meeting rooms, the weight rooms, training room and all other practice and competition sites in order.

Student-athletes are expected to use their student ID cards to access the secured weight rooms and should only be using such facilities during regular hours unless supervised by a coach as part of a team training session.

For University liability and fire code purposes, doors should not be left propped open at any time.

Student-athletes should enter through main entrance points, or be assisted by the coaches when building/fields are not open for general use.

The University is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please secure all belongings.

Students are not allowed to drive personal or University vehicles to and from games/matches and/or practices off campus. Students are to be transported to these events via University transportation or charter bus service.

All vehicles must have the appropriate number of seat belts for all passengers and seat belts should be worn at all times. Vans should not be overloaded.

For overnight trips only one student should be assigned to a bed.

At George Fox University, our policy is that all student-athletes in the traveling party must return to campus with the team. The exception would be when an athlete is released to the custody of his or her parent/guardian(s).
