Mandy Federici joined the Bruins' coaching staff to work with the track and field team in 2018. Federici works with the Bruins' throwers. In addition to her role with the throwers, Federici also works as an adjunct professor at George Fox.
Prior to George Fox, Federici coached at the University of Hawai'i under head coach Tim Boyce. While at the University of Hawaii, Federici coached multiple conference qualifiers, including Haleigh Sudbeck, the 2018 conference champion in the hammer throw. Federici also spent three years as an assistant coach overseeing throws at Pacific (Ore.). Under her tutelage, Emily Sproul earned All-American honors in consecutive seasons (2016-17), earning a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in the javelin during both seasons.
Six Pacific throwers also earned all-region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Her event group was well-represented at the 2017 Northwest Conference Championships, led by a Sproul women's javelin title and Jacob DuVall men's discus crown. Josh Huffman also finished third in the men's discus. In Federici's first season with Pacific (2016), she guided All-American javelin thrower Mackenzie Huddleston to a runner-up finish in the NWC Championships, while Sproul was fifth. Huddleston went on to place third at the NCAA Championships.
Prior to Pacific, Federici served as the throws coach for both the men's and women's programs at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. from 2012-15, beginning as a graduate assistant before being elevated to the full assistant role. Her Concordia-St. Paul throwers broke all of the program's throws records. She also guided the career of All-American shot putter Mike Cullen, who placed 11th at the NCAA Division II Championships to become the program's first All-American honoree.
Prior to Concordia-St. Paul, Federici served for one season as an assistant coach for men and women at Concordia University-Portland, coaching three All-Americans. She also spent one season as the head field coach at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.
As a student-athlete, Federici was a two-time junior college All-American while at Mt. Hood. She graduated from Concordia-Portland in 2012, competing for the Cavaliers and twice placing second at the Cascade Conference Championships in the hammer. She was a member of Concordia's 2011 NAIA National Outdoor Championship. Federici graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. She earned her master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia-St. Paul in 2014. She has earned her USATF Level I Certification. Federici resides with her family and their dog, Gunner, in Newberg.
