KIRKLAND, Wash. - Senior forward Katy Campbell posted her third
double-double of the season and the 10th of her career with 17
points and 11 rebounds, leading the George Fox University Bruins
past the Northwest University Eagles 72-51 in a non-conference
women's basketball game Friday evening here at The NU Pavilion.
After trading leads five times in the game's first three
minutes, the Bruins took the lead for good 8-7 on a jumper by
Campbell with 17:02 left in the first half. The Eagles stayed
close, however, and when Rachel Travis nailed a three-pointer with
5:13 left, George Fox's lead was down to a single point at 20-19.
MaryAnne Samples then responded with a three-pointer that
kick-started a 20-5 Bruin run to close out the period, giving the
visitors a 40-24 lead at the intermission.
The Bruins remained comfortably in front throughout the second
half as the Eagles were able to get no closer than 11 points at
47-36 on a basket by Dani Drivstuen with 13:21 remaining. The
Bruins' largest lead was 25 points at 72-47 after Lindsay Keener
made a layup with 1:29 to go.
In addition to Campbell's big game, Jaime Hubka tossed in 16
points by hitting 6-9 from the field, including 4-6 three-pointers,
Kaleigha Ramey scored 11, and Tiffany Behary had 10. Behary and
Hubka had four assists apiece. The Bruins shot .500 (27-54) from
the field, including .478 (11-23) from three-point range, and held
a decided advantage on the boards, 35-19.
Brittany Bowsher paced the Eagles with 17 points and Chelsea
Drivstuen added 12. Travis and Dani Drivstuen, who also had a
team-high three assists, were the top rebounders with four each.
The Eagles connected on .356 (16-45) of their shots.
George Fox (7-1), ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III by
D3hoops.com, plays its final non-conference game at home Saturday
at 7:00 p.m. against Worcester State College from Massachusetts.
Northwest (2-9) hosts Dordt College of Iowa Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
