TACOMA, Wash. – For the second year in a row,
George Fox University's Jenny McKinsey victimized her former
team by scoring the only goal of the game as the visiting Bruins
edged the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes 1-0 in a Northwest
Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon here at
the PLU soccer field.
As a freshman in 2006, McKinsey led PLU in scoring with eight
goals, but transferred to George Fox prior to the 2007
season. Last season, she scored the only goal in
the Bruins'1-0 over the Lutes in Tacoma, but did not take as
long this year, scoring at 27:17 to give the Bruins the only goal
they needed. McKinsey took a pass from Kirsten
Cardwell, slipped between a pair of defenders and slotted the ball
to the lower left corner, just beyond the fingertips of diving PLU
goalkeeper Kamryn Morgan.
The Bruins controlled the game in the opening half, out-shooting
the Lutes 6-3 and taking four corner kicks to none for PLU. The
second period was a different story as the fiesty Lutes took
advantage of a strong wind at their back to keep the pressure on
the Bruins. The Lutes had nine shots in the second half to just
three for the Bruins, though the corner kicks were equal at three
apiece. The Lutes, however, were not able to really trouble George
Fox keeper Sally Page, who finished with three saves to earn her
fifth shutout of the season Morgan had three
saves in the PLU goal.
Both teams have Northwest Conference home games Sunday at 12:00
noon, George Fox (6-2, NWC 2-2) hosting Linfield College and
Pacific Lutheran (1-5-2, NWC 0-4-1) hosting Willamette
University. Each game will be followed by men's games
at 2:30 p.m.
