Box Score
NEWBERG, Ore. - Senior forward Jenny
McKinsey scored the first two goals of the game and
assisted on a third, sparking the George Fox University Bruins to a
3-0 win over their Yamhill County rivals, the Linfield College
Wildcats, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match Sunday
afternoon here at Morse Field.
McKinsey gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead 11:27 into the game when she
collected a long indirect free kick from Jordan Haselnus just
inside the 18-yard box and sent it straight into the net from 15
yards out. It was the only score of the first half.
The Bruins began to pull away with McKinsey's second goal at
64:51 in the second half. Esther Harder sent a corner kick
from the right into the box, where Haselnus flicked it to McKinsey
in the middle for a 10-yard score to the left of Linfield
goalkeeper Kelsey Hasselblad. It was her sixth goal of the
season. McKinsey later drove the left baseline and crossed to
Kirsten Cardwell coming in from the right, where she had an easy
five-yard tap into the net for her seventh goal.
With her two goals, McKinsey moved into a tie for third on the
all-time George Fox goals list with 29, tying Brooke (Pitner)
Erickson (2000-02). The assist was the 20th of her
career, extending her own Bruin record. With 78 career
points, she is one away from Gegi Bonera's second-place total of
79. Cardwell's goal was her 22nd all-time, moving
her into fifth on the George Fox charts.
Bruin keeper Autumn Van Meter made seven saves on the Wildcats'
nine total shots, posting her second career shutout. Linfield
was hampered in its offensive opportunities by the loss of leading
scorer MacKenzie Doty, who has nine goals and 20 points on the
season, 16 minutes into the contest due to a hip pointer.
George Fox had 16 shots, nine on goal, with Hasselblad making six
saves. The Bruins also had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
