Box Score
TACOMA, Wash. - Held scoreless
by a feisty George Fox University defense for over two-thirds of
the game, the No. 1-ranked University of Puget Sound Loggers
finally broke through with two late scores to defeat the visiting
Bruins 2-0 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match Sunday
afternoon here on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium.
The Loggers, ranked first in the D3soccer.com national poll and
second in the NSCAA/adidas poll, got off 14 shots in the first half
compared with just two for the Bruins, but keeper Autumn
Van Meter made four saves to keep the Bruins deadlocked in
a scoreless tie with the potent Loggers heading into halftime.
The home team continued to pepper the net in the second half
with 17 shots, resulting in seven more saves for Van Meter, but
finally broke through in the 64th minute when Jenny Moore dribbled
past a defender and unleashed a beautiful shot from the top of the
box that found its way into the upper right corner. It was
her sixth goal of the season. Janece Levien made it 2-0 in
the 78th minute, gaining control of the ball in the middle of the
box and firing in a shot from point-blank range for her NWC-leading
11th goal of the season.
Puget Sound keeper Kallie Wolfer helped the Loggers collect
their seventh shutout of the season, making one save on three total
George Fox shots. Van Meter finished up a strong game for the
Bruins with 11 total saves on 31 shots by the
Loggers.
Puget Sound pushed its Northwest Conference winning streak to 22
matches with the win. The victory was also the 199th of head
coach Randy Hanson's career.
