WBSK: GEORGE FOX 82, OREGON TECH 64 - Owls Become Bruins' 3rd Straight CCC Victim

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. - Building a 22-point first-half lead with two big scoring streaks, the George Fox University Bruins defeated their third straight Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball opponent with an 82-64 victory over the Oregon Institute of Technology Owls Sunday afternoon here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

With the win, George Fox improved to 3-0 and won its 35th game in a row counting last year's perfect 32-0 and NCAA Division III national championship season.  The Bruins opened this season with wins over the CCC's Corban College and Concordia University-Portland.  Oregon Tech fell to 3-5.

Nicole Morgan gave the Owls a 3-0 lead before the Bruins reeled off 11 unanswered points on a rebound basket by Elise Kuenzi and two free throws, a three-pointer and a layup by Arianna Mohsenian.  After Kellie Morey broke the streak with a three for the Owls, the Bruins ran off 13 points in a row on a three by Kuenzi, two treys by Keisha Gordon, and consecutive layups by Hannah Munger, making it 24-6 with 13:18 left in the half.

Tech got back in the game with a 15-5 run over the next seven minutes, Kelsey New fueling the rally with a pair of three-pointers that pulled the Owls within eight at 29-21.  The Bruins regained control with another string of eight straight points, B.B. Gardner and Gordon sandwiching layups around a three by Lindsay Keener, and built up a 44-22 halftime lead on a Munger free throw with six seconds left.

A three by Lisa Busch and layup by Brittany Cheery brought the Owls back within 17 at 44-27 to start the second half, but that was as close as the visitors would get.  Over the next 10 minutes, the Bruins out-scored the Owls 19-4 for a 32-point lead of 63-31.  An 11-4 run in the final three minutes of the game enabled Tech to close the gap somewhat.

Gordon with 14 points and eight rebounds and Kuenzi with 13 points and seven boards led the Bruins, who got scoring out of 12 of their 13 players.  Carly Towne and Hannah Munger just missed double figures with nine points each.  Kuenzi also had five assists.  Kuenzi, Gordon, and Gardner had three steals each as the Bruins forced 22 Tech turnovers while committing only 13 themselves.

New topped the Owls with 14 points, Aundrea Albright added 12, and Cherry picked up a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Morey passed out four assists.

NOTES: George Fox heads for southern California for two games during the Thanksgiving holidays.  On Friday, the Bruins will meet Chapman University at 6:00 p.m. in a game to be played at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.  On Sunday, they will play Cal Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. ...
