NEWBERG, Ore. – Senior Ralf Schulz and freshman
Stefan Lagielski teamed up at No. 1 doubles to give George Fox
University its first match win of 2009, but the Bruins faltered in
the rest of the matches and dropped an 8-1 decision to the Pacific
Lutheran University Lutes in Northwest Conference men's
tennis Saturday afternoon here at the GFU campus courts.
Schulz and Lagielski prevailed over PLU's Justin Peterson
and Zack AhYat 8-5, but the rest of the day belonged to the
visitors. The Lutes captured the No. 2 doubles
as Michael Manser and Joel Trudel dropped Nick Jenness and Scott
Barnett 8-2, and the No. 3 doubles, Kevin Floyd and Chris Dew
downing Ross Budreau and Garrett Thompson 8-2.
In singles, the Lutes won all the matches, Trudel over Lagielski
6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, AhYat over Barnett 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2; Peterson
over Jenness 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3; Dew over Schulz 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4;
Scott Sheldon over Thompson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5; and James Crosetto
over Budrea 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
George Fox (0-2, NWC 02) visits Pacific University Sunday in a
match scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center
in Beaverton, Ore. Pacific Lutheran (2-3, NWC
2-2) returns to action next Saturday, hosting Lewis & Clark
College at 10:30 a.m.
