BEAVERTON, Ore. – In their first
“road” match of the season, the George Fox University
Bruins dropped an 8-1 decision to the Pacific University Boxers in
Northwest Conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon
here at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Bruins opened the season with two home matches, one of which
was moved to Tualatin Hills because of wet courts at George
Fox. The Pacific match had already been
scheduled for the indoor facility in Beaverton.
The Boxers started strong by taking all three
doubles. Micah Leo and Spencer Hing defeated the
Bruins' Stefan Lagielski and Ralf Schulz 8-5 at No. 1,
Michael Okada and Eric Furuya downed Scott Barnett and Nick Jenness
8-2 at No. 2, and Nhat Nguyen and Patrick Kinghorn topped Garrett
Thompson and Ross Budreau 8-3 at No. 3.
The Bruins picked up their only win of the day when Barnett
defeated Leo at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1. The
Boxers took the remaining singles as Okada downed Lagielski 6-2,
7-6 at No. 1; Hing knocked off Jenness 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3; Furuya
topped Schulz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4; Nguyen swept Thompson 6-0, 6-0 at
No. 5; and Kinghorn beat Budreau 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
George Fox (0-3, NWC 0-3) next heads for eastern Washington,
taking on Whitworth University Friday at 4:00
p.m. Pacific (2-0, NWC 2-0) plays Whitworth
twice on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
