McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Playing short-handed
due to a combination of illness and conflicting class schedules,
the George Fox University Bruins dropped a 9-0 Northwest Conference
men's tennis match to the Linfield College Wildcats Friday
afternoon here at the Linfield Tennis Center.
With only four players available for the match, the Bruins had to
default the No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6
singles. In the doubles matches that were
played, Linfield's Walt James and Brent Kingzett cruised past
George Fox's Ralf Schulz and Stefan Lagielski 8-1 at No. 1,
and Luke Rembold and Mark Magdaong downed Scott Barnett and Ross
Budreau 8-5 at No. 2.
Linfield singles wins went to Nick Ruess over Barnett 6-1, 6-3 at
No. 1; Kyle Anderson over Lagielski 3-6, 6-4, (10-4) at No. 2; Ward
Van Mens over Schulz 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3; and Tal DeWitt over Budreau
6-0, 6-0 at No. 4
George Fox (0-6, NWC 0-6) returns home to host Lewis & Clark
College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Linfield (5-0,
NWC 5-0) visits Eastern Washington University for a non-conference
match Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
