BEAVERTON, Ore.
– Scott Barnett of George Fox University picked up wins at
No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles, but the rest of his teammates were
not as fortunate as the Bruins dropped a 7-2 decision to the
Willamette University Bearcats in a Northwest Conference
men's tennis match that was moved here to the Tualatin Hills
Tennis Center Saturday afternoon due to wet courts on campus.
Barnett and Ross Budreau captured the Bruins' doubles point
with an 8-4 win over the Bearcats' Michael Moore and Jordan
Helvie at No. 3, but the visitors took the other two
matches. Cody Ferguson and Micah Mack defeated
Stefan Lagielski and Ralf Schulz 8-4 at No. 1, and Andrew Murakami
and Matthew Houser rolled over Nick Jenness and Garrett Thompson
8-1 at No. 2.
Barnett won a tight No. 1 singles match with Murakami 7-6 (7-1),
6-4, but the rest of the day went Willamette's
way. Ferguson split sets with Lagielski before
prevailing 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 2; Houser downed Schulz 6-0, 6-2 at
No. 3; Alex Sepenzis dropped Jenness 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4; Mack topped
Thompson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5; and Moore beat Budreau 6-0, 6-1 at No.
6.
