TACOMA, Wash.
– Showing strength at the top of the order but faltering at
the bottom, the visiting George Fox University Bruins dropped a 6-3
decision to the University of Puget Sound Loggers in a Northwest
Conference men's tennis match Friday afternoon here at the
UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Bruins' Stefan Lagielski and Nick Jenness picked up the
No. 1 doubles win with an 8-4 victory over the Loggers'
Stefan Berglund and Zac Peeler, but the home team bounced back in
the other two doubles. Sam Finkleman and Nick
Kelley downed Scott Barnett and Ross Budreau 8-3 at No. 2, and
Scooter Sabel and Andrew Timmons whitewashed Garrett Thompson and
Scott Porter 8-0 at No. 3.
Barnett and Lagielski posted singles wins for the Bruins, Barnett
taking out Finkleman 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 and Lagielski ousting Alex
Harrison 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. The rest of the
George Fox order, however, could not pick up the pace as Sabel
knocked off Jenness 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Peeler beat Budreau 6-1, 7-6
(8-6) at No. 4, Timmons topped Thompson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Carl
Larson blanked Porter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
George Fox (1-15, NWC 0-15) concludes its season at Willamette
University on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Puget Sound
(6-10, NWC 4-9) entertains Lewis & Clark College Saturday at
12:00 noon.
