McMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Goals by Anna Sours and Emily Fellows, the latter resulting in the
establishment of two new Linfield College records, lifted the
Wildcats past the visiting George Fox University Bruins 2-0 in a
Northwest Conference women's soccer match Sunday afternoon
here at the Linfield soccer field.
After failing to cash in on several shot attempts early in the
first half, Linfield finally took a 1-0 advantage in the 38th
minute as Sours lofted a shot from 25 yards out over George Fox
goalie Becka Doyle's head and into the top
right corner of the net. It was her third goal of the season.
In the 89th minute of the second half, Fellows registered her 17th
goal of the season, breaking the Linfield single-season standard of
16 set by Kathleen Wochnick in 2003. The goal also gave her 39
points for the season, surpassing Bryn Devlin's record of 38 points
set in 2002. Jenna Quiring set up the record-setting header
with a perfectly placed free kick into the box.
Linfield finished the match outshooting George Fox 23-6 overall and
13-5 in shots on goal, while holding a 7-2 advantage in corner kick
attempts. Kelsey Hasselblad tallied five saves in goal for
the Wildcats, while Doyle made 11 saves to give the Bruins a chance
until the very end.
