PUGET SOUND 5, GEORGE FOX 0: Goals by Goss and Boortz Lead Loggers by Bruins

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. - With Abby Goss and Karla Boortz each scoring twice and adding an assist for five points apiece, the University of Puget Sound Loggers remained in first place in the Northwest Conference with a 5-0 romp over the George Fox University Bruins in women's soccer Saturday afternoon here at rainy East Field.

The Loggers struck quickly, Goss scoring from six yards out after a cross from Theresa Henle and a flick from Molly Winterrowd just over four minutes into the game.  Five minutes later, Serwaah Fordjour scored her second goal of the season over a Bruin defender's foot following a cross from Boortz.

In the 15th minute, Boortz picked up her first goal of the game, scoring from the top of the penalty box with an assist from Winterrowd.  Goss added her second goal of the match in the 39th minute when she tapped in the rebound of a shot by Christine Isabella that had been stopped but not controlled by Bruin keeper Alyssa Montero, giving the Loggers a 4-0 halftime lead.

Boortz and Goss teamed up to score the Loggers' final goal in the 52nd minute during the second half, Boortz drilling home a shot from 25 yards out following a cross from Goss.  The Logger defense did the rest, limiting the Bruins to two shots total, none on goal, leaving keepers Jess Yarbough in the first half and Casey Thayer in the second half with little to do.

UPS took 27 shots, 11 on goal, with Montero making six saves in goal for George Fox.  The Loggers also held a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Goss and Isabella led all players with five shots apiece, while Nicole Akiu had both of George Fox's tries.
