PARKLAND, Wash. - In a season-ending defensive
contest that saw only four shots on goal taken by both teams
combined, the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes edged the George
Fox University Bruins 1-0 in a Northwest Conference women's
soccer match on a rainy Saturday afternoon here at the PLU soccer
field.
The only score of the game came in the 50th minute during the
second half, when the Lutes' Brittany Bronson kicked in a tip
from Jordann Gilmer from seven yards out. It was
Bronson's second score of the season.
Each team took nine shots apiece in all, with the Lutes having
three shots on goal to one for the Bruins. Bronson and Mimi
Granlund took two shots each for PLU, while Melanie Gaither had
four shots for George Fox, including the Bruins' one shot on
goal. The Bruins had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks but
could not capitalize on any of their chances.
Alyssa Montero had two saves as the
Bruins' goalkeeper. Ivory Harvey stopped the only
opportunity she had in preserving the Lutes' shutout.
George Fox finishes with a 5-11-4 overall record and a 4-10-2
record in conference, tying for seventh in the NWC standings with
Whitman College. Pacific Lutheran concludes its season at
6-11-3 overall and 5-10-1 in the league, finishing sixth.
