Box Score TACOMA, Wash. - Maintaining
their hold on first place in the Northwest Conference women's
soccer standings, the University of Puget Sound Loggers squeezed
past visiting George Fox University with their fourth straight win,
1-0 over the Bruins on a late first-half goal by Robin Viera,
Saturday afternoon here at Baker Stadium.
In the 44th minute, Vieira picked up a rebound off a save by
George Fox keeper Alyssa Montero and buried it
into the open net for the only score of the match. It
was Vieira's fourth goal of the season and her third
game-winner.
That goal proved to be enough as the Puget Sound defense limited
the Bruins to only four shots all game. Logger goalie Kara
Merfeld made two saves on the Bruins' two shots on goal, her
fourth shutout in as many starts in her career. The Loggers
took 12 shots in the game, six on goal, with Montero making five
saves to keep the Bruins in the game.
George Fox has played seven games this year that were either
tied or decided by a single goal, including the last five.
Three of their losses have been by 1-0 scores.

next Saturday, when the Loggers will go to Pacific University for a
12:00 noon contest.
