Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. – Sarah Gamache put back
her own blocked shot just over four minutes into the first
overtime, giving the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes a 2-1
victory over the visiting George Fox University Bruins in Northwest
Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon here at the
PLU soccer field.
Pacific Lutheran took a 1-0 lead at 30:41 in the first half when
Erica Boyle secured a Blake Warner pass that had been deflected
near the top right corner of the penalty box and sent it
immediately back across the face of the goal and into the netting.
It was her second goal of the season.
The Bruins tied the score in the second half at 51:15 when
Alicia Wong's 35-yard shot rolled under the
hands of PLU keeper Laurie Reddy and into the goal for her first
score of the year. The Bruins made a serious bid for a
go-ahead goal with two minutes left in regulation, Lela Stockley
and Madison Miller sending shots toward the net six seconds apart
that Reddy was able to save, sending the game into overtime.
George Fox goalie Alyssa Montero made several key stops of her
own to keep the game tied, including a sprawling touch around the
post on a header try by Karli Hurlbut nine minutes from the end,
and another save on a Hurlbut shot as regulation time expired.
That set up the overtime and Gamache's fourth goal of the
season, giving PLU its second overtime win in conference
play. Hurlbut sent a through ball to Gamache, who got off a
shot that was stopped at point-blank range by Montero but not
controlled. She then stepped past the prone keeper to knock
the ball into the open net for her fourth goal of the season
at the 94:10 mark.
Reddy finished the match with four saves, while Montero was
called on to make five stops. The Lutes finished with a 12-9
advantage in shots, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal, though
the Bruins had a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
