LA MIRADA, Calif.
– In the first of three men's
tennis matches they will play on their spring break trip through
southern California, the George Fox University Bruins dropped a 6-3
decision to the Biola University Eagles, a member of the NAIA,
Saturday afternoon here at the Biola Tennis Center.
George Fox picked up a doubles win at No. 3 as Justin
McClain and Pax Magaway doubled up the Eagles'
Daniel Westman and Isaiah Pekary 8-4, but the home team took a 2-1
lead with wins at the other two spots. Weston Leopold and
Brent Worthington downed Scott Barnett and Preston Mann 8-3 at No.
1, and David Mossman and Ryan Adams edged Peter Brown and Josiah
Jackson 8-6 at No. 2.
The Bruins notched singles wins at No. 1 as Barnett knocked off
Leopold 6-4, 6-1, and at No. 3 with McClain splitting with
Worthington before winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. The Eagles secured
the match with wins at No. 2, Mossman overpowering Mann 6-1, 6-1;
at No. 4, Westman beating Brown 6-2, 6-4; at No. 5, Adams topping
Jackson 7-6 (10-8), 1-6, 7-5; and at No. 6 as Pekary picked off
Magaway 6-1, 6-1.
NEXT: George Fox (5-4) will play twice on
Monday, against Willamette University at 10:00 a.m. at Biola, and
then again at 4:00 p.m. against Hope International University on
the courts at California State University-Fullerton. The
Willamette match is a makeup of the Northwest Conference match that
was rained out at George Fox on March 4 ... Biola (4-8) plays
Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Vanguard University.
