Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. - A goal by Kailee Green 58
seconds into the first overtime gave the Pacific University Boxers
a hard-fought 1-0 win over the visiting George Fox University
Bruins in the Northwest Conference women's soccer opener for
both teams Wednesday night here at Lincoln Park Stadium.
Pacific controlled the flow of the game for most of each half in
a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation time, out-shooting George Fox
8-5 (4-1 in shots on goal) in the first half and 12-3 (8-2 in shots
on goal) in the second half. The Boxers could not slip
anything past Bruin goalkeeper Alyssa Montero,
however, who made 12 saves, including a terrific game-saving stop
on a line drive by Sarah Tuffey with seven-and-a-half minutes left
in regulation. Pacific net minder Brittany Hartmann made
saves on all three of the Bruins' shots on
goal.
The Boxers finally broke through early in the extra period when
Tuffey sent a cross from the left into the middle of the box.
Green collected the pass, broke free of the defense, and sent the
game-winner inside the left post from five yards out to end the
defensive struggle.
Pacific also finished with a 4-1 edge in corner kick
opportunities, committed nine fouls to four for George Fox, and
drew three offsides penalties to none for the Bruins.
NEXT: George Fox (0-3-2) will play its
first home match of the season when the Bruins host the Whitman
College Missionaries Saturday at 12:00 noon at the Austin Sports
Complex. Whitman opened NWC play Wednesday with a 1-0 win in
the last minute at home against Whitworth University. The
game will be part of an NWC doubleheader as the George Fox and
Whitman men will square off at 2:30 p.m. ... Pacific (4-1) will
host Whitworth Saturday, also at noon and also part of a
twinbill.
