Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Rookie
forward Jordyn Brennerman's third goal of the season gave the
George Fox University Bruins a lead early in the second half, but
the Pacific University Boxers rallied with three scores of their
own for a 3-1 win in the Northwest Conference women's soccer
opener for both teams Wednesday night here at Lincoln Park
Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Bruins got on the board when
Melanie Gaither took a shot that was blocked two minutes into the
second period. Haley Downey retrieved the
ball and passed to Brennerman, who sent it from the center of the
keeper's box into the net for a 1-0 George Fox lead at the
47:16 mark.
The Boxers tied it eight minutes later when Kamryn
Plechot's throw-in to the middle of the box was corralled and
shot in by Chantal Gustine. The home team then took the lead
when Kaitlyn Harper intercepted a Bruin clearing attempt and
knocked it home from the top of the penalty box at the 61:07
mark.
Pacific acquired an insurance goal with four-and-a-half minutes
left in the game. Plechot notched that score from five yards
away after a pass from Harper.
Brittany Hartmann earned the victory in goal for the Boxers with
three saves, while Bruin keeper Ally Swanson turned back four
Pacific shots. The Boxers took 12 shots in all, seven on
goal, to seven total tries and four on goal for the Bruins.
Pacific also held a 9-1 corner kick advantage.
