Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. - A pair of
goals by Northwest Conference scoring leader Emily Fellows, one in
each half, carried the nationally-ranked Linfield College Wildcats
to a 2-0 win over the George Fox University Bruins and the best
start in team history in a women's soccer match Sunday
afternoon here at the Linfield soccer field.
Linfield, ranked 23rd in the d3soccer.com national poll, is now
6-0 overall, topping the Wildcats' 5-0 start in 2003, and 2-0
in the conference. George Fox is 1-4-2 overall and 0-3 in the
NWC.
Fellows notched her first goal of the game at the 17:21 mark
when she collected a long ball from Anna Sours, split the Bruin
defense, and sent home her eighth goal of the year. She added
her second of the game and ninth of the season just 36 seconds from
the end by heading in a corner kick from the left by Madisen
Stewart.
In between scores, the George Fox defense was kept busy clearing
crosses and pressuring Linfield shots as the Wildcats took a total
of 33 tries, 11 of them on goal. Bruin keeper Alyssa Montero
made a season-high nine saves in the contest.
Linfield's defense, which has allowed only one goal total
in six games, limited the Bruins to one shot the entire day, a wide
attempt by Melanie Gaither 30 minutes into the
game. Taylor Collinsworth was credited with the
Wildcats' fifth shutout of the season but had no saves to
make.
