Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. – With four different
players contributing one goal apiece, the Whitman College
Missionaries scored twice in each half on the way to a 4-0 win over
the visiting George Fox University Bruins in a Northwest Conference
women's soccer match Sunday afternoon here at the Whitman Athletic
Field.
Whitman's first goal came on a breakaway at the 29:18 mark as
Kelsey Roehner scored her second goal of the season, dribbling down
the left side and firing a shot into the upper right-hand corner of
the net. The Missionaries made it 2-0 when Mackenzie Hughes
notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season from the left
side off a cross from Pamela London at 39:45.
In the second half, Whitman added a third goal on Danielle
Audino's first goal of the season, Elyse Laurin driving a low
centering pass to the far side of the goal where Audino was waiting
to tap it in at 57:01. The final goal came at 89:31 as Hallie
Swan collected her first goal of the year on a shot that was placed
into the lower left corner of the net off a deflection after the
ball had caromed several times in the box.
The Whitman defense limited the Bruins to six shots all day, two
on goal, with Tear'sa Krieger taking four of them.
Whitman keeper Emily Davis stopped both shots on goal in 77 minutes
of work before Haley Case finished up. The Missionaries
peppered 26 shots, 14 on goal, with George Fox goalie Ally
Swanson making 10 saves. Hughes and Jade Anderson
took the most Whitman shots with six apiece. Whitman also
held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
NEXT: George Fox (3-8-1, NWC 1-6-1) returns
home Saturday to host Lewis & Clark College in a conference
match at 12:00 noon … Whitman (8-5, NWC 4-5) hosts Pacific
Lutheran University in an NWC game Saturday, also at 12:00
noon.
