Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Playing the first of three
consecutive games away from home, the George Fox University Bruins
dropped a 3-0 decision to Lewis & Clark College in a Northwest
Conference women's soccer match on the Pioneers' Homecoming
weekend Sunday afternoon here at Griswold Stadium.
Lewis & Clark got on the board first when Emily Thompson
found the back of the net off a corner kick by Emilia Emmetti in
the 11th minute. The Pioneers extended the lead to 2-0
in the 34th minute on a penalty kick goal by Anna Thorndike.
That score stood until there were three minutes left in the game,
when Natalie Levy closed out the scoring by controlling a scramble
in the box and firing a shot from 10 yards out past Bruin keeper
Alyssa Montero for the final 3-0 count.
The Pioneers held a comfortable 31-4 advantage in total shots,
including a 13-2 margin in shots on goal. The Bruins were
able to keep the game close until the very end as Montero made 10
saves, the third time in the last four games that she has reached
double figures in saves. Geena Fong worked 87 minutes and
made two saves for the Pios, with Lindsey Milgrom playing the final
three minutes.
The Bruins were led offensively by Becca Allen
with three shots, two on target. Thorndike led the Pioneers
with seven shots, four on goal.
NEXT: George Fox (3-6-1, NWC 1-4-1) makes the
eastern Washington swing next weekend, starting Saturday at
Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. … Lewis & Clark
(7-2-1, NWC 4-1-1) travels to the University of Puget
Sound in Tacoma, Wash., on Saturday … Both are
conference games slated for 12:00 noon starts.
