Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – Hannah Harder's
team-leading third goal of the season gave George Fox University a
1-0 lead at halftime, but the Bruins were unable to hold visiting
Pacific University in check in the second half as the Boxers
rallied for a 3-1 win in Northwest Conference women's soccer
action Sunday here at the Austin Sports Complex.
Harder's goal came at 32:37 of the first half after the
Boxers had narrowly missed two good scoring opportunities, one by
McKenna Davidson that was stopped by Bruin keeper Alyssa Montero
and a header by Chandler Bowen off a corner kick that missed the
left post by about six inches. Michelle Young sent a corner
kick from the right into the box, where the ball touched down
momentarily before Harder knocked it into the net from about three
yards out.
Pacific struck back quickly with a pair of goals in the first
ten-and-a-half minutes of the second half. The Boxers tied the
score when a throw-in from the left side by Kamryn Plechot was
headed on by Kara Lankey, and Ashley Park-Hunt sent it inside the
far post at the 46:47 mark. Nine minutes later, the Boxers
took the lead off a well-placed cross from near the right sideline
by Lankey to the far post, where Park-Hunt immediately reversed it
into the right corner of the net for her fourth score of the
year.
The Boxers added an insurance goal at 80:19 following a George
Fox foul in the box. Davidson, who drew the foul, stepped up
for the penalty kick and drilled it inside the right post for her
10th goal of the season.
Pacific finished with a 25-5 advantage in total shots, 8-4 in
shots on goal, and 12-1 in corner kicks. Davidson led the
Boxers with seven shots, three on goal, while Harder and Becca
Allen had two shots each to pace the Bruins, Allen on target with
both of hers. In the net, Montero added five saves to her
league-leading figure, now at 144, and Kristina Morris had three
saves for the Boxers.
