NEWBERG, Ore. – Returning to campus from
their match with Lewis & Clark College at the Stafford Hills
Tennis Club in Tualatin, the George Fox University Bruins picked up
a 9-0 win over the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars from
Ontario, Ore., in an exhibition match Saturday afternoon here at
the GFU campus courts.
The Bruins opened the match by taking all three doubles with
only four games lost in all. At. No. 1, Chace Stalcup and
Mitchell Miyashiro won 8-2 over Woody Anguaiano
and Jonahs Joudrey. The next two were both 8-1, with Andy
Tweet and Matt Deming taking down Martin Loya and Sven Kubatov at
No. 2, and Ben Fullhart and Peter Brown downing Tanner Nielsen and
Cristian Sanchez at No. 3.
The singles were all straight-set sweeps by the Bruins, with the
No. 4 singles being shortened to a pro set to give TVCC more time
for the drive back to eastern Oregon. It was Stalcup over
Anguaiano 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1; Tweet over Joudrey 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2;
Brown over Loya 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3; Miyashiro over Kubatov 8-1 at
No. 4; Deming over Nielsen 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5; and Fullhart over
Sanchez 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
“This was a great opportunity for the guys deeper in our
lineup to get some action,” said George Fox head coach Nael
Ninteman. “We have a very deep and talented squad,
which means that some of our players don't get the
recognition they deserve. But they are very much a part of
the Bruin tennis success story, and we would not be the team we are
without the commitment of guys like Chace, Andy, Mitch, Matt, and
Benji.”
