FOREST GROVE, Ore. – For the second straight game, one goal was all it took for the George Fox University Bruins to suffer an oh-so-close setback, this time in their Northwest Conference women's soccer opener as they fell to the Pacific University Boxers 1-0 on the road Saturday afternoon here at Lincoln Park Stadium.

The George Fox defense held tight through the first half as the Boxers shot eight times and took 10 corner kicks, though only one shot was on goal.  The Boxers finally broke through four minutes into the second half when Kara Lankey crossed to McKenna Davidson in the middle of the box, and she headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for her third score of the season.

The Boxes continued to pepper shots throughout the second half, taking 11 shots for 19 in all, with eight on goal, and getting seven more corners.  Bruin keeper Alyssa Montero, who went the distance, held the Boxers in check by making seven second-half saves and eight in all.

Pacific's defense was particularly stingy, allowing only two shots, both on goal, by Jasmine Florez and Jenna Prewitt.  Kayla Davidson and Kristina Morris split the goalkeeping duties for the Boxers, each making one save, with Morris getting the win in the second half.

It was the third straight 1-0 game for the Bruins, who won by that score at Whittier College on Sept. 6 before falling in a one-goal home game to Evergreen State College on Sept. 12.

NEXT: George Fox (2-3, NWC 0-1) visits Linfield College, ranked 25th by D3soccer.com, Sunday, while Pacific (4-1-1, NWC 1-1) hosts Pacific Lutheran University Sunday.  Both conference matches begin at 12:00 noon.
