Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – After nearly pulling off
a first-set upset, the George Fox University Bruins were hit with
some sizzling offense by the University of Puget Sound that carried
the 15th-ranked Loggers to a 3-0 win (29-27, 25-14, 25-17) over the
Bruins in Northwest Conference women's volleyball action
Saturday night here at Memorial Fieldhouse.
George Fox rallied from an early eight-point deficit to force a
long first set, but Puget Sound responded by hitting .276 in the
second set and .357 in the third. The Loggers finished the
match with a .277 hitting percentage (41 kills, 13 errors, 101
attempts) to .074 (37 kills, 28 errors, 121 attempts) for the
Bruins.
Jackie Harvey had four kills as the Loggers jumped out to a 12-4
lead in the opening stanza, but the Bruins battled back and
eventually forged a 19-19 tie on a service ace by Erin
Campbell. The game was tied eight more times, with Puget
Sound regaining the lead seven times, only to have George Fox score
to keep the set going. The Bruins' only lead came at
24-23 on a combo block by Kylee Adderson and Emily Rawlings, but an
attack error enabled the Loggers to save set point. UPS broke
a 27-27 tie with a Bruin service error, then won it with an ace by
Karly Edwards.
An 8-0 run with Christina Chun serving early in the second set
put the Loggers ahead 13-4, and the Bruins got no closer than seven
points the rest of the way. The Loggers closed the set with
three straight points, Nicolette Reynaud getting two blocks (with
one assist by Jenni Brehove) in that run.
George Fox built a quick 3-1 lead in the third set on kills by
Campbell, Tiffany Burk, and Erin Sprowls, but UPS
responded with a 7-0 run with Brehove serving to take control at
8-3. The teams effectively traded points over the middle of
the match, the Bruins twice closing within three before the Loggers
extended their lead to 21-14 on an ace by Edwards. The Bruins
then scored three unanswered points, two of them kills by Burk,
before the Loggers secured the set and match with a 4-0 run
of their own, including two winners by Kristen Lane.
Burk and Campbell led the Bruins with eight kills each, and
Sprowls and Karlee Jo Sampson had six apiece. Payton Shrum
handed out 19 assists and Chelsea Brustad 14. Chelsea Wilson
collected 14 digs, and Rawlings contributed four blocks, including
one solo.
Harvey had 12 kills and Marissa Florant added 10, hitting .474,
to lead the Loggers. Brehove handed out 32 assists and made
10 digs, while Harvey added 12 digs. Reynaud had four blocks,
two solo.

eastern Washington NWC teams next weekend, starting with Whitworth
