NEWBERG, Ore. --- On a crisp fall afternoon, the George Fox student body, university alumni and Newberg community members came to campus to celebrate Homecoming 2014 and the Bruins' first home conference football game.

The Bruins faced the University of Puget Sound Loggers and despite some sparkling plays were defeated 33-14.

Grant Schroeder and Brad Lander connected twice on the day for one touchdown and 66 yards. John Shaffer had 27 attempts and ran for 103 yards with a long of 18. Schroeder connected with four different receivers in the game. The Bruins totaled 237 yards, while the Loggers recorded 333 yards.

The Bruins were down 12-7 going into the fourth quarter, but a pick-six by the Loggers gave them a 19-7 edge. George Fox bounced back after the Lander touchdown, but the Loggers would score twice to end the game and give them the victory.

As with every home game thus far, the Bruins had a crowd in excess of 3,000 (3,121), and the University is expected to lead the conference in attendance for the season.
