A Thrilling Five Set Match

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. --- It was the most thrilling game of the season thus far Saturday night, as the women's volleyball team hosted the Loggers of Puget Sound in a five-set match.

The Bruins (2-14, 1-5 NWC) fell to the Loggers (6-9, 5-1 NWC) 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 24-26, and 13-15.

The Bruins opened the first two sets in dominating fashion, and looked to close out the Loggers in the third set, but a late comeback would force a fourth. The Bruins fell in the third, fourth, and fifth set by only two points.

In the opening set, the Bruins were led by Erin Campbell who posted five kills on 10 attacks, hitting .300. Erin Sprowls also had a dominating first set landing three blocks, two solos. The Bruins out-hit the Bruins .250 to .036.

Campbell again caught fire in the second set hitting a blazing .500 with seven kills. Sprowls added to her block total and Erin Dellinger hit .667 with two kills on three attacks.

The Bruins opened up the third set with force rallying off six-straight points to take a 16-9 lead. The Loggers started to gain some momentum and evened the match up at 18 apiece after a UPS kill. Both teams would trade points back and forth until UPS took a 24-22 lead to close out the set.

The fourth set was led by the Loggers, who jumped out to a quick 16-12 lead after Logger' Katie Rice landed a kill. The Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight late in the set after five-straight points knotted the set, 23-23. Both teams would tie the set up again at 24-24, but UPS would finish the set with two straight-points to force a fifth and final set.

The Bruins trailed early in the fifth set, 3-7, but sparked a rally to force a UPS timeout after getting within one, 11-12. A kill by Kylee Adderson put the Bruins in the game at 13-14, but the Loggers would take the match after a kill just snuck by the Bruin defense.

The Bruins had four players in double-digit kills and were led by Campbell, who tallied 16 on the night. Sprowls finished with 13, while Delaney Cruz had 12 and Adderson recorded 11. Erin Dellinger led the Bruins with a .615 hitting percentage (8 kills).

The Loggers out-blocked the Bruins, 13-10.

George Fox will head to the road for the next two weeks, as the Bruins will play five-straight road games with the first at Whitworth on Oct. 10 at 7p.m.
