Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. --- No. 17-ranked George Fox University's women's basketball team completed the sweep of the California two game road trip Saturday night, as the Bruins defeated the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 63-48.
The Bruins entered tonight's game ranked at No. 29 in the NCAA Div. III with scoring defense (50.5), and used their tenacious defense to hold the Athenas under their nationally ranked average.
"I love the competitive spirit of this team," said head coach Michael Meek. "Their will to win and get after the ball is really fun to watch. To me, the mark of a really good team is having any player step up, and with this team I feel like we have a lot of players who can step up and contribute for us. Our bench was fantastic tonight and they gave us a lot of solid minutes. It's great to see this team continue to grow and give an all-out team effort game in and game out.
Four Bruins scored in double-digit points, as both Justine Benner and Sammy Naluai led the team with 12. Lauren Codling and Jami Morris added 10, while Nicole Blizzard finished with seven.
The score never changed hands nor was it tied as the Bruins went into intermission with a 10-point lead, 35-25.
George Fox was red hot from the floor shooting a 48.1 percent clip in the first half.
In the second half, the Bruins continued their dominance increasing their lead to 14 with less than five minutes left on the clock, 56-42.
The Bruins finished their night out-rebounding CMS, 44-30. They also caused 14 turnovers, while recording seven steals. Blizzard led that category with three steals of her own.
The Athenas were led by Kimberly Scamman, who went for 18 points, four steals and two assists on the night.
The undefeated Bruins stand at 7-0 on the season and will enjoy a nice break before heading to Hawaii to play Wheaton on Saturday, December 20 and Lake Forest on Sunday, December 21.
