SEATTLE, Wash. – Opening the spring
portion of their 2013-14 men's tennis schedule on the road
against a tough NCAA Division I opponent, the Division III George
Fox University Bruins dropped a 7-0 decision to the Seattle
University Redhawks Saturday evening here at the Amy Yee Tennis
Center.
The Bruins dropped all three doubles matches, but D-I only
counts the doubles as one point. At No. 1, the
Redhawks' Kevin Lynch and Jason Bediones defeated the
Bruins' Chris Lilley and Justin McClain 6-3,
Will Topp and Zach Kosanke topped Chace Stalcup and Mitchell
Miyashiro 6-1 at No. 2, and Connor Leahy and Riley Newman knocked
off Preston Mann and Nick Grafton 6-2 at No. 3.
In singles, Miyashiro earned a split at No. 6 before losing to
Leahy 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3),but the rest of the matches were decided
in straight sets. Lynch clipped Lilley 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1;
Topp took out McClain 6-1, 6-5 (7-5) at No. 2; Kosanke conquered
Mann 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3; Newman stopped Stalcup 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4;
and Ian Clare claimed a 6-5 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Grafton at No.
6.
NEXT: George Fox (0-1) will play the University
of Oregon Club Team Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Eugene in an exhibiton
match that will not count on the Bruins' record … The
next match that counts for the Bruins will be their Northwest
Conference opener at home against Pacific Lutheran University on
Friday, Feb. 21, at 6:00 p.m. at the GFU campus courts …
Seattle (2-3) goes to Utah State University Friday for an 11:00
a.m. match.
