NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox University's women's volleyball team hosted the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran in a Friday night conference match-up.

The Lutes (10-2, 3-0 NWC) came in as the top team in the Northwest Conference, and are one of two teams who are currently undefeated in conference play. The Bruins (2-10, 1-2 NWC) fell to the Lutes in a three-set match 15-25, 13-25, 20-25.

The opening set both teams traded points back and forth, as the score was knotted up 8-8 after Bruin' Erin Sprowls (Vancouver, Wash./King's Way Christian) fired one past the PLU defenders.

The Lutes used their fire power to their advantage going on a 9-1 rally to open up the scoring and take a 21-11 lead before finishing the set, 25-15.

In the second set, both teams again traded points in the beginning, but PLU jumped out to a quick 15-9 lead after four-straight points. The Lutes finished the second set with a 6-1 rally.

The third set proved to be the most exciting, as the score was tied eight different times. The Lutes started to pull away from the Bruins late in the set after five-straight points, 21-15, but the Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight.

After trailing 23-17, the Bruins fired off three-straight points to get the crowd and the tension a run for their money. It started after Delaney Cruz (Amity, Ore./Amity High School) recorded a solo block to start the momentum. Erin Campbell (Covington, Wash./Kentwood High School) followed up the Cruz block with a huge kill of her own to pull within six of the Lutes. Cruz brought the crowd to yells and cheers after a solo block to keep the rally going, but only needing one more point the Lutes closed out the set, 25-20.

Campbell led the Bruins on the night recording 10 kills on 29 attempts.

GFU out-blocked the Lutes 8.0-4.0.

The Bruins will take to the road tomorrow when they travel to Willamette on Sept. 27 at 7p.m.
