Box Score SALEM, Ore. --- George Fox University's women's volleyball team forced a five-set match Saturday night, as the Bruins took on the Bearcats of Willamette University.
The Bruins (2-12, 1-3 NWC) fell to the Bearcats (7-6, 2-2 NWC), 17-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 13-15. It was the first five-set match for the Bruins in conference play.
The Bearcats started strong after taking the first two sets, but the Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight winning the third and fourth set to force a fifth and final set in the match.
Four Bruins recorded double-digit kills on the night, as Erin Campbell (Covington, Wash./Kentwood High School) led the way with 23 kills on 53 attempts, hitting .245. Both Delaney Cruz (Amity, Ore./Amity High School) and Kylee Adderson (Medford, Ore./St. Mary's High School) recorded 14 kills on the match. Erin Sprowls (Vancouver, Wash./King's Way Christian High School) rounded out the four with 12 kills of her own.
As a team, the Bruins out-hit the Bearcats .188 to .170 and out-blocked WU 7.0-6.5. Campbell led the Bruins in digs (23) and service aces (5) on the night.
Payton Shrum (Lynnwood, Wash./Meadowdale High School) led all players with 55 assists.
The Bruins won't have much rest between their next game when they travel to Lewis and Clark on Oct. 1 at 7p.m.
