Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- It was a game that had all the hype in the world. Both teams ranked in the Top 25, and both undefeated on the season at 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the Northwest Conference.
In the opening minutes, the No. 10-ranked Bruins kept the No.15-ranked Pirates lost at sea holding them to two points after six minutes of play, 12-2. The Bruins held Whitworth to a 14.8 percent clip from the field as they went 4-for-27. On the other hand, the Bruins were red hot shooting 59.4 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the 3-point line.
George Fox's largest lead of the half came with 49 seconds left after Kyla Miner made a fast break layup, 44-13.
The Bruins held the Pirates to 13 points at the half, which was the lowest they have recorded all season long.
The dominant performance continued in the second, as the Bruins increased their lead to 35 after Jami Morris made a pair at the free throw line, 64-29. Keeping the Pirates out of reach, the Bruins cruised on by finishing the game with a 31-point margin of victory.
George Fox finished the game shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Pirates shot 24.6 from the field and 20 percent from the 3-point line.
Morris led the Bruins with 15 points going 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 from the deep ball. She also added three assists and three rebounds. Both Lauren Codling and Justine Benner finished the game with 10 points apiece. Codling was one rebound shy of a double-double (9), but she recorded four steals and added two assists to her all-around performance.
KC McConnell led the Pirates with 19 points.
The Bruins improve to 15-0 on the season and 6-0 in the Northwest Conference. The Pirates fall to 14-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.
George Fox will host Pacific at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20th.
