Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- The undefeated and No. 6-ranked Bruins cruised by the Boxers of Pacific University Friday night, as the Bruins beat the Boxers, 81-57.
At first both teams traded baskets back and forth, as the score was tied three times in the first five minutes. The Bruins changed that notion rather quickly increasing their lead to double digits after a couple baskets in a row.
The lead stayed around a 15-point margin for the rest of the first half, as the Bruins went into the break up, 39-22.
The Bruins dominated the paint outscoring the Boxers, 24 to 12, and points off turnovers 11 to 4. Both teams shot around the 40 percent mark at the half.
In the start of the second, George Fox jumped out to a commanding lead increasing the margin to 33 after a 17-2 run in the first five minutes. The Bruins held off the Boxes with every charge they threw at them keeping the lead at out of reach.
Justine Benner led both teams with 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting and four rebounds. Jami Morris, who sits at 12th All-Time in Career Points recorded 14 with three steal. Lauren Codling continued her all-around season performance with her fifth double-double of the season (12 points/10 rebounds). Codling also added five steals and three assists. Nicole Blizzard had her second best scoring night this season with 10 points.
The Bruins improve to 16-0 on the season and 7-0 in the Northwest Conference.
George Fox will hit the road this week traveling to Lewis & Clark on the 24th at 4:00 p.m.
