TACOMA, Wash. --- The Bruins went north to take on conference leaders and No. 17-ranked Pacific Lutheran on Sunday afternoon. Despite eight saves from keeper Morgan Bars and a few dangerous looks from striker Savannah Moisan, the Bruins were unable to break down the Lutes' back line and lost, 3-0.
Recap:
The Bruin defense did well to limit Pacific Lutheran -- who've lost just one match all season -- to optimistic long-range shots, and Bars was indeed in excellent form. What's more, the Bruins looked dangerous on the break, especially through Moisan, the Bruins' leading scorer, and Hannah Harder, who had two shots on goal.
Through the first forty-five minutes, the Bruin defense stonewalled the Lutes, who had possession but found themselves unable to find space in the box. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the scoreless line didn't quite hold through the first half: in the 44th minute, the Lutes' Amber Richard took Taylor Lunde's clever ball just inside the eighteen and calmly fired home.
Pacific Lutheran struck again seconds into the second half: Emily Hanna, twenty yards from goal, struck a good shot that snuck inside the near post to put the Bruins two goals behind.
However, doubling the deficit seemed to ignite the Bruins. Just after the Lutes' second goal, Harder got the ball against the run of play and forced Lutes' keeper Takara Mitsui into a good save. In the 69th minute, a wicked attempt from Moisan sizzled just wide of the post.
In the 83rd minute, earlier goal scorer Hanna picked up an assist, playing Hailey Smoot through on goal; Smoot finished to make the final score 3-0.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins stand at 5-10-2, 3-9-1 in the NWC, with the defeat, but look forward to next Saturday and a winnable match at Willamette.
