NEWBERG, Ore. --- The fighting Bruins of George Fox hosted the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran Saturday night. Although much might was seen from the Bruins, the match ended in a PLU victory, 3 sets to 1.
Recap:
Pacific Lutheran started quickly, surging to a 6-0 lead. The Lutes didn't let up and took the opening set, 25-15.
George Fox showed a sizeable amount of fight in the second and third sets. The second set saw the Bruins fall behind early before catching up at 24-24 after a kill by Danyle Dupray. Unfortunately, the Lutes won the next two points to take the set 26-24.
The third set yielded a better result. The Lutes proved to be their own worst enemy, as they committed four errors in a five point run by George Fox to begin the set. The Bruins finished strong to take the third set, 25-21.
High off their own momentum, the Bruins showed noticeable resilience in the fourth set, knotting the set at 10-10. The Lutes' Roshel Muzzall provided 5 kills in the set, which ended up being much of the difference as PLU claimed the set 25-19 to win the match.
Top Performers:
For the second straight night, Delaney Cruz led the team in kills with 13. Payton Shrum had a game-leading 42 assists to only 2 errors, a very efficient night for the senior.
What It Means:
The Bruins fall to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in conference, while the Lutes improve to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in conference.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins face off with Warner Pacific in Portland for a rare late season out-of-conference match on Tuesday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m.
