Box Score Spokane, Wash. --- The George Fox football team opened up conference play on the road against the Pirates of Whitworth University, Saturday afternoon, as the Pirates edged the Bruins, 37-14.

Whitworth used their home field advantage to their benefit in the early going by scoring 30 unanswered points in the first three quarters. The persistent Bruins didn't give up, though, as John Shaffer recorded the Bruins first touchdown after a 15-yard run with 8:09 left in the third quarter. The Pirates got on the board one more time in the fourth quarter before the Bruins responded with Joe Mohr throwing a 36-yard touchdown pass to Kenny May to complete the scoring.
The Bruins recorded 270 total offensive yards, while the Pirates put up 513 yards. The Bruins showed they were more disciplined, committing just five penalties for 35 yards, while the Pirates managed 11 penalties for 113 yards.
Top Performers:
Shaffer ran for 80 yards on 21 carries with a long of 15. Trevor Daniels led the receiving crew with four catches, while May led the team in yards with 36. Tell Cruickshank led the defense side of the ball with eight tackles, one interception and one broken up pass. The Bruins recorded eight tackles for a loss including two sacks on the day against a Pirates offensive line that hadn't allowed a negative yardage play all season long coming into the game.
