Forest Grove, Ore. --- The women of the George Fox volleyball team took a day trip to Forest Grove Friday night to face off with Pacific. The Bruins kept it close with the Boxers all night long, but couldn't quite come out of the Stoller Center with a win.
Recap:
It's always a game of run in volleyball. George Fox surged ahead in the first set 21-16 after a 4-1 run and although Pacific clawed at the lead, George Fox was still two points away from putting away the set at 23-20. Pacific would formulate a run of their own and five straight points later, the game would be taken, 25-20 in favor of the Boxers. The second set also featured an important Pacific run: with George Fox leading 9-8, Pacific went on a blazing 9-1 run, putting the set out of reach for the Bruins. Although they would eventually make up some ground, they would lose 25-20 in the second set. The Bruins would seem gassed, as the third set didn't warrant a better result. The Boxers would take the last set 25-16.
Top Performers:
Freshman Danyle Dupray was the stat-filler of the night, recording seven digs and co-leading the Bruins with six kills. Her co-leaders, junior Erin Dellinger and sophomore Delaney Cruz, only amount for one attack error between them. Although it wasn't the result that they had hoped for, these three women were especially clean on the offensive end.
What This Means:
George Fox drops to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in conference. Pacific rises to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the Northwest Conference.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will make a visit to cross-county rival Linfield on Saturday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.
