NEWBERG, Ore. --- Justine Benner and Sammy Naluai both scored 24 points apiece to lead the No. 4-ranked Bruins over Corban University, 77-55.
Recap:
The Bruins were relentless in the early going, jumping out to a seven point lead, 11-4, in the first six minutes of the first quarter. They closed out the first quarter with a 12-3 run over the Warriors, 23-7. The second quarter was very similar to the first, as the Warriors had no answer to the tenacious press and high octane offense that the Bruins were putting on. George Fox jumped out to its largest lead in the second quarter when Anjenae Torregano knocked down a huge triple to lift the Bruins to a 31 point lead, 41-11. The Bruins went into the half up, 44-16.
The Bruins held the Warriors to a 10.3 percent shooting clip from the floor in the first half.
The second half continued to be in favor of the Bruins, but the Warriors did make it competitive cutting the deficit to 23 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter went back-and-forth, as both teams traded baskets, but the Bruins closed out the game with two free throw shots from Benner.
Top Performers:
Benner is now 13th All-Time in Career Points with 1,013 to her name. She is also coming off a Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week award for her performance in the Bruins' season opener. Benner recorded 12 rebounds and her first double-double of the season. She also had five assists and three steals. Naluai finished with a career-high on the night, beating her old mark of 17 points in last year's matchup against Northwest Christian on Dec. 2, 2014. She also filled up the stats with eight rebounds, six assists and one steal. Torregano was a huge lift off the bench, as scored eight points, dished out three assists and stole the ball three times in 21 minutes of play.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins (2-0) will head down to California next weekend when they play Redlands and California-Santa Cruz on Nov. 27-28.
