SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- The No. 2-ranked women's basketball team closed out the Thanksgiving Tournament with a 78-60 victory over tournament host UC-Santa Cruz, Saturday evening.
Recap:
The Bruins were relentless in the first two quarters using 12 points off of turnovers and 10 points in the paint to distance the margin to a 38-22 lead at the break. The Banana Slugs were unable to hold off the Bruins, as they coughed up the ball 25 times in the game. The Bruins also out-rebounded the Banana Slugs 41-38 and shot 58.8 percent from the 3-point line. UC-Santa Cruz did manage to outscore the Bruins in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 18-11 third quarter the Bruins put on.
Top Performers:
Sammy Naluai led the Bruins on the night with 21 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. She also added eight rebounds and three steals to her performance. Justine Benner scored 13 points, while Kaitlin Jamieson added 10 points.
What It Means:
It means the Bruins are still perfect as they head into December and Northwest Conference play.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins (4-0) will host Puget Sound for the first NWC game of the year this Friday, Dec. 4 at 6:00 p.m.
